"Cats are an excellent model for human diabetes for several reasons. Type 2 diabetes, with it's associated hallmark decreased insulin secretion and insulin resistance, is common in both humans and cats. The cats' metabolism of fatty acids is similar to human's and obesity is a significant risk factor for Type 2 diabetes in both species."
