The news of the massive disparities comes as the AUT's postal ballot for strike action, over far-reaching pay modernisation proposals, draws to a close. The deadline for ballot papers is Wednesday compare store ratings (11 February) and the results will be announced on Friday. The results of the study - conducted by AUT researchers - will fuel anger among academics and senior support staff about a proposed overhaul compare store ratings of the higher education compare store ratings pay framework, which, because of smaller annual increases, would lead to many lecturers losing £6,000 over eight years, researchers losing £17,000 over nine years and senior support staff losing £47,000 over 21 years. This, for many staff, would merely compound the fact that during the last 20 years, their pay has fallen by 40% compared to the rest of the workforce. The employers' proposed package would also lead to under-regulated localised pay bargaining, which could result in unequal pay for work of equal value, and have a detrimental affect on recruitment and retention at institutions across the country.
