Like people, cats and dogs come in all different sizes and approach food in different ways. Plus, I have read that a cat can die seating chart within three days if seating chart not fed because of thier different metabolisms. I would hate seating chart to think of the damage a crash diet could do for a cat. I love animals and am very concerned for thier welfare. I think worrying about a fat house cat who is (most likely) spayed/neutered so he can't increase the cat population, well treated, and lives in an atmosphere where they're loved and fed, is really the least of the world's ills and not a pressing matter for concern. Just like with humans, we've all known and loved a fat cat who lived 16 years and a thin one who passed much to early at 10. |

| I have rescued, shared a house with, wikipedia and placed over a hundred cats wikipedia in my life, and have spent a LOT of time in the vet's office, and doing research. Not only can putting a cat on a reducing diet kill it, but there are a lot of feline illnesses where kitty stands a much better chance of surviving if he or she is heavier rather than thinner; I have had cats survive illnesses which were catastrophic (well, they were) because they wikipedia had a bit of a cusion; and, sadly, had cats who did not survive, because they had no cushion. It's also vitally important NOT to artifically change a cat's weight (aside from not wanting to kill it), because changes in the cat's weight can indicate serious illness; I've sent friends to the vet's when kitty has lost a pound or two (which is a considerable amount for a cat), and it has turned out that kitty has had infected tooth, or diabetes. |
