Not only that, but each children's 4 8 - picturebooks part on each children's 4 8 - picturebooks track was recorded in one take, giving the music an exuberance of spirit not often found in electronica. More recently, Mice Parade went on tour in Europe with a full band, including Dylan Cristy of the Dylan Group, and Doug Scharin of Him. While the band members were all superb musicians and the live gigs no doubt rocked, their addition, and the free jazz elements thrown into the mix, turned Mice Parade into something different from its origins. It’s thus a great pleasure to find children's 4 8 - picturebooks that the new album is, by and large, a return to the multi-tracked one-take recordings of old. Kristin from Múm lends guest vocals to two tracks, and both Cristy and Scharin appear, but the tracks are vintage Mice Parade. Fans will recognize the 11-minute “Mystery Brethren” as a live cover of a Jim O’Rourke remix from the Collaborations album, complete with glitchy sampled vocals.
