Of these, ‘Banshee Beat’ is perhaps the most brilliant. Avey Tare, now a formidable vocalist, tenderly coos over an insistent bed of delayed guitars as, over the course storyteller training over the first four minutes, they coalesce into a pulsing rhythm. The whole song storyteller training is possessed of a momentum so strong that the eight minutes of the track pass in a blur. Feels (unlike Sung Tongs, which was recorded by only Avey Tare and Panda Bear) is a return to the full Collective—the Geologist and Deakin return, and with storyteller training them drums and pianos and electric guitars. The resulting music is the sound of friends enjoying themselves, genius on a summer holiday. The primary thing about Animal Collective that should be celebrated, the thing that makes them so vital in an age of vacant pop and WASP laments, is the ecstatic nature of their music.
