All the trademarks are there, including viciously EQed distorted drums (“Here Today”) – and Pierce’s drumming is as phenomenal as ever. Just what the doctor ordered. | As with the Dylan Group, Mice Parade melds live instruments with the temperament of electronica/breakbeat. The early albums were remarkable not only for his drumming (Pierce pretty much originated the live jungle thing), but also for the fact that he fat catpay pushed up by 'performance-related' bonuses played every instrument, from acoustic guitar and Chinese zither to bass and drums, and of course vibes. While the band members were all superb musicians and the live gigs no doubt rocked, their addition, and the free jazz elements thrown into the mix, turned Mice Parade into something different from its origins. |
